Rome from top!

Palazzo Caffarelli, Rome, Italy

Rome has a number of amazing viewpoints. Being there for four days, we couldn’t visit every single one, of course. But we could admire the city’s many, many domes from four of those outlooks.

For best photos, we recommend the late afternoon. The city looks even better in this light.

The Gianicolo: Piazza Garibaldi!

Classic! This hill is located west of Tevere River. From the highest point, the Piazza Garibaldi, you can enjoy the view over Rome’s seven hills.

A bit down the Via Garibaldi, there’s another nice lookout. On the other side of this place is a baroque fountain, Fontana dell’Acqua Paola. Lovely!

Giardino degli Aranci

The orange garden is also called Savello Park. Great view over the city. On the way up you pass a beautiful rose garden. Also worth a visit.

The park next to is quieter but the view is a bit worse. I especially loved meeting this young lad.

Further up the hill: “Il buco di Roma”. You can see St. Peter’s dome through a key hole. Many tried to take a smartphone photo of it. We decided not to wait for it in line.

Furthermore the churches Santa Sabina and Santa Maria del Priorato are here.

The Pincio

Never forget this viewpoint. A steep way leads here from the Piazza del Popolo. The view is amazing. The park on the hill is perfect for relaxing.

Either you allow yourself a beer of €8 in the Restaurant/Café. Or (better) you get yourself a drink from the Indians at the stand and enjoy it on a bank in front of Villa Medici. Very decent on hot days while waiting for the sunset (best light for photos).

Up on the hill, we met a nice lady from Utah. Very amusing conversation. Regards to You, wherever you may be!

Caffé Capitolino on the terrace of Palazzo Caffarelli

It’s lovely up here. We don’t know why so few people were there. Prices are decent and you can enjoy a marvelous view. We stayed sitting here for a bit longer.

It’s located, as the name tells, on the Capitol’s hill. Having been here, you can skip the view from Vittorio Emmanuele. You can visit the café without entering the museum.
