There is this thing we have with good wine. Generally, we adore countries with love for wine. Of course, South Africa knows this and made us really happy with its beautiful wine estates and delicious wines.
We spent two nights in Stellenbosch at the amazing Marianne Wine Estate and visited a few of the most beautiful wine estates of the region. And we tasted their wines!
Stellenbosch means indulgence
In the past years South Africa became one of the most popular wine regions in the world. There’s a rising demand for their fine wines. And after having tasted for ourselves we can confirm they are fantastic – we are real fans now.
You can enjoy different kinds of wine tasting in one of the many wine estates. Wine and Biltong tasting, wine and chocolate tasting etc; there’s nothing missing. Like in Camps Bay Africa is far away from here.
Additionally the region has some excellent gourmet restaurants being a pleasure for your taste buds and belly.
Marianne Wine Estate and Floreal Brasserie
We booked the beautiful loft room – so beautiful it’s a shame we only stayed two nights. But hey, we only had two weeks in SA, so we had no choice.
The loft room was large and stylish. We were welcomed with a bottle of the wine estates rosé wine. This is how you make your guests happy.
What’s really amazing is the view from the pool house over the valley with the picturesque hill in the background. Sitting here for sunset and enjoying one of Marianne’s bottles – priceless!
All guests receive a complimentary wine tasting. It includes six wines of the wine estate. We totally recommend staying in Marianne Wine Estate.
Just a short walk from the wine estate is the Floreal Brasserie, a restaurant with a pleasant ambiance. Next to an open fire you can enjoy delicious food and Marianne’s wines. Everybody seemed happy here.
Delaire Graff
This one is like a dream. To get there you drive along a beautiful avenue with statues and gardens at the side. If you can afford it, you can sleep in one of the luxury rooms.
The wine estate/hotel reminded us of a museum with all the paintings, statues, fountains and plants. It seems unreal.
In the basement you can taste their wines in dimmed light and rustic furniture. We really liked it a lot. The atmosphere was amazing and we just didn’t want to leave.
Waterford Wine Estate
Another wine estate straight out of a picture-book. The huge property is located in Blaauwklippen Valley, surrounded by beautiful gardens. Driving along the entrance drive reminded us of a fairytale. The fountain in the middle can be seen from far away.
We did a wine and chocolate pairing – getting the ‘right’ chocolate to each wine. Very interesting. It was our premiere and we liked it very much.
Furthermore we were shown the wine cellar and additional information on the estate.
You shouldn’t miss out Waterford when in Stellenbosch!
Warwick Wine Estate
It’s not as spectacular as the former but equally beautiful. The main building is surrounded by gardens and a lake. You can enjoy the gourmet picnic, but unfortunately we came too late for this. We were jealously looking at the other guests’ plates.
All the wine estates we visited had great wines. The service was outstanding and the wine tastings were lots of fun.
Furthermore we visited Tokara and Dornier Wine Estate. They are also beautiful but atmosphere and service were by far inferior to the others. Well, it also depends on your taste.
Have you been to Stellenbosch yet? Which Estates would you recommend?
