Amsterdam – Canals, weed and cheese! – Part 2

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

If you want to see the whole of Amsterdam, you have to walk miles. But being flat, it’s convenient. You only notice your hurting feet, when sitting down for a drink 😀

Going to Blauwbrug along Reguliersgracht and Herengracht. Blauwbrug – the blue bridge is not blue. The name stems from the bridge which was there before.

Behind it the Magere Brug – a reconstructed bridge from 17th century. Also, the name stems from the past: It used to be so narrow, that two people couldn’t pass each other.

Crowded Rembrandtplein. The place was named in 1867 after, as you can imagine – painter Rembrandt van Rijn.

Tuschinski Theater – not a theater but a cinema with a beautiful front. Must be beautiful inside, too. But we didn’t see that.

Munttoren on Muntplein – a tower on a place which basically consists of a bridge. Very crowded.

From here we walked in direction of Oude Markt. Very beautiful.

Looking for food, we passed Grimburgwal. A small canal near the university. What a delightful spot!

This is a part of the university in Amsterdam…ours wasn’t so beautiful 😉 Oudemanhuispoort – you can browse a small book market here.

The darker, the more beautiful – in my opinion. The Zuiderkerk.

Way too many kerks… – Oudekerk!

The city on the Amstel by night – picturesque!

Amstel-Dam is really worth a long walk. You can discover so much!

Doing so, you will get tired – Paparazzi are everywhere 😀

Interesting: Magna Plaza – once a post office, today a shopping mall. Looks like a palace from outside. Downstairs we visited a Rembrand exhibition – of course only high-class art prints.

Next to it: Palais op de Dam – the king’s palace. The former post office is more pompous.

Spui: Every Friday there’s a book market here.

From Spui you can enter Begijnhof – one of the major sights in Amsterdam.

A ‚Begijnhof‘ is separated from the city around it. It’s very quiet inside. There are many of them in Belgium and two more in the Netherlands.

Inside there’s a small chapel, beautiful small houses and a garden. It was built in the 14th century.

Oude Lutherse Kerk – also seen from Spui.

Snakehouse and art and so on…

Amsterdam: At the end of the day, our feet burned like hell! But totally worth it!
