Ten Natural Wonders in Europe!

Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

Some people love city trips. And some try to avoid civilization whenever the can. Even if you don’t have such a radical attitude, it’s a fact, that we have natural wonders on our planet, which we should appreciate, love and cultivate.

Regarding this, Jan and I may just have scratched the surface and are far away from calling us experts.

However we’ve already seen some places and you should do the same.

It was hard to choose only ten places, but ten is a great number and the list is the following. We focussed on Europe this time and it’s not to be understood as a ranking.

1. Plitvice Lakes, Croatia

If you’ve ever been here, you know how beautiful this Nature Park is. It’s Croatia’s largest National Park and belongs to the UNESCO World Natural Heritage since 1979. To protect the park, there are a few rules to obey. Entrance fee is quite expensive. Read more here!

2. Kravice Falls, Bosnia & Herzegovina

This country is still a unspoilt country. Nevertheless locals know their gems and you can’t blame those using Kravice Falls for refreshment in summer. The colour of the water is amazing. It’s also very cold. At least for me. Jan used the occasion to go swimming. Read more here!

3. Sächsische Schweiz, Saxony, Germany

Unfortunately, we all hear a lot of bad stuff about Eastern Germany. For this reason, we hesitated to visit this area. Nature nevertheless, in this case named Sächsische Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland), convinced us and we weren’t disappointed. We’re really looking forward to see more about this part of our country.

4. Königssee, Bavaria, Germany

Oh Bavaria. Yes, we are biased and think Bavaria is Germany’s most beautiful state. And with this opinion, we’re not alone as the Alps attract millions of tourists every year.

It might be places like the dreamy Königssee in the Berchtesgadener Land, also called Bavarian Fjord. No matter if it’s the view from the Jenner mountain, the view from the Malerwinkel or a boat trip across the lake to St. Bartholomä church – there are a few reasons to see this natural wonder live.

5. Jökulsárlón, Iceland

Actually the whole of Iceland is a natural wonder for us. But it’s specifically Jökulsárlón that we had on our list for a long time. It’s also called Glacier Lagoon and it’s great to see how the icebergs swim over the lake. From time to time you can also glimpse seals. More about Jökulsárlón here!

6. Cliffs of Moher, Ireland

Wild, green, Ireland.  The pictures of Cliffs of Moher are known all over the world. They’re one of the Ireland symbols everyone knows. If there’s something you have to see in Ireland, it’s definitely Cliffs of Moher. If possible, come here at sunset. Read more here!

7. Rhine Falls, Switzerland

The Rhine Falls at the German-Swiss border belong to the three highest water falls in Europe. How Schlaufen Castle thrones over the falls is really the cherry on the top. This place is on every Switzerland Bucket List!

8. Rustrel, Provence, France

No, this is not the well known place in the USA! The ocher rocks in orange and red shades reminded us of Colorado. It’s beyond us why Rustrel is still so unknown. If you come here, you should bring some clothes to change. I’s hard to wash out the red colour of your cloths. Read more here!

9. Scala dei Turchi, Sicily, Italy

Another place way too unknown. Most in our surrounding think about Taormina and beaches when hearing Sicily. Less think about bright shining white cliffs. Locals love their Scala dei Turchi, but tourists somehow avoid this place and they’re doing wrong. When in Sicily, you have to visit the ‘Stairs of the Turks’. Read more here!

10. Bay of Kotor, Montenegro

The only fjord in Southern Europe. And it’s so breathtakingly beautiful. You should definitely walk up St. John Fortress. The view is worth the effort. Sea and mountains as far as the eye can see. Read more here!

Which natural wonders are missing on this list? What places should we put next on our list?
