Christmas Markets in Hesse!

It’s that time of the year again. Christmas is any day now and if you’re not yet in the right mood, then you better visit one of the many Christmas Markets. Only for you, we made the effort to see some of the great markets the German State of Hesse has to offer. From Frankfurt, all of them are easily accessible by car or train.

The combination of half-timbered houses and Christmas Markets was what we liked most. It’s not possible to beat this. There’s, unfortunately, no help for you, if you won’t look forward to Christmas after this post!

Frankfurt: Christmas Market at the Römer

We start with the largest and best known. Frankfurt’s Christmas Market is really crowded, especially on the weekends. There are many food and drink booths but also a lot of cute craft stands. So really everyone here will be happy.

On weekends, it might be just too crowded and it gets really annoying. Come on a weekday, if you can.

Frankfurt City Alm: Rooftop Christmas Market

No one can explain why this hadn’t happened earlier. Where if not in Frankfurt is the perfect place for a Rooftop Christmas Market?! It’s small and cute, with food and drinks just like it should be. Additionally, you can enjoy a great skyline view, especially at night. In case it’s raining, there’s the City Alm next to it, where you can also enjoy some traditional food and drinks.

Wiesbaden: the Sternschnuppenmarkt

What is it that Wiesbaden does better than Frankfurt? First of all, they have the prettier cathedral, well, Frankfurt is not really to blame for this. But secondly, and this could be changed, Wiesbaden definitely has the more beautiful Christmas tree.

Otherwise, the Sternschnuppenmarkt in Wiesbaden is beautifully decorated and all your dreams come true. Being not only the capital city of Hesse, it’s also the capital of the Rheingau and known for its good wines. After testing, we can say the mulled wines are very good as well. There’s also nothing missing on the culinary aspect.

Christmas Market in Schlitz, Hesse

My personal Christmas Market highlight is definitely the one in Schlitz. It’s the perfect scenery: a little market square with booths surrounded by beautiful half-timbered houses. And if this wasn’t enough: they dressed one of the towers as a red candle. This simple idea creates such a surreal scenery, I could have looked at it for hours. The atmosphere was great here.

It seems to be well known in the area but nevertheless, it wasn’t crowded on the Saturday before Christmas.

Christmas Market in Alsfeld, Hesse

And another dream made of half-timbered houses. This Christmas Market was really cute. There’s actually not much to tell about Christmas Markets, especially not about the small ones. As mentioned before: half-timbered houses and Christmas Markets are made for each other.
