This is by far the most sleepiest village in the Alsace region. Probably, we haven’t been to all places in Alsace, but we just cannot imagine a place more calm.
It’s a huge contrast to Colmar or Riquewihr. Everything seems more natural here. Still it s a beautiful place.
Alsatian idyll
The half-timber village is surrounded by vineyards and the peaceful atmosphere is almost a bit creepy. It’s not meant negatively.
You’ll have the feeling of being totally alone in the village. At least it was like that at an early evening in August.
Schwendi Castle
There is one sight in this village and this one is the Schwendi Castle built in the 16th century. The Confrerié St. Etienne (the Stephan’s fraternity) has it’s seat here. They’re responsible for the quality check of Alsatian wines.
Furthermore there was a wedding in the backyard of the castle. So if you’re still in search of the perfect wedding location: This is it!
A walk along the walls of the village, you can watch the results of the native’s hobbies.
Ease, good food and high prices
The graveyard of Kientzheim is one of the most beautiful we’ve seen so far.
There’s really not much happening here maybe due to the prices. It is really expensive here. Maybe it’s more a place for retired people with a bit of money left on the side.
But if you’re in the region anyway, you should visit this place. It’s not far from Colmar.
Unfortunately we couldn’t see all of those beautiful Alsace villages. We will definitely return!
