Prague – Melting Gold!

Once upon a time, it was a hot weekend in July 2012, we spent a weekend in Prague. When i say it was a hot weekend, i mean really, really hot. One of those that are rarely seen in Middle Europe. The city is also called the Golden City and we´re sure, much of the gold melted this weekend!

First time sightseeing in the heat. Nothing is impossible if you really want it!

Getting there

There are many ways to come to Prague. As we’re living quite close, we chose driving by car. Taking the train and flying is also possible. From our hotel to the city centre, we took the Tram.

Hotel

Our hotel was the Extol Inn. It is located a bit outside of city centre, but very well connected to it. Value for money was fantastic. Breakfast, spacious room, private and beautiful bathroom (although it’s not that important) for just €25 per night.

If you want to enjoy nightlife in city centre, I would recommend a location more close. For us this wasn’t relevant this weekend.

On the booking platforms it’s described as a hostel and has international guests – long live the Australians! But it is definitely complying with hotel’s standards.

By the way: breakfast was amazing!

What to eat

As already told, breakfast was included in our hotel’s rate. You can enjoy lunch and dinner in Prague in every price range. But generally it’s kind of a cheap city. Drinking a glass of wine in a beautifully located café is always affordable.

What to see

Prague is setting high standards. There are few cities, combining beauty and variety in such a great way. Sights are easily to visit on one weekend, in the city centre everything is in walking distance. But in our case, it was too hot on the second day. So we didn’t see ‘dancing house’ and ‘golden lane’ for example.

Luckily, the small and narrow streets and lanes are shady. Actually we were constantly looking for ways to better stand the heat. You will notice: everything’s about the heat. It was really kind of driving us insane.
