On our first day we glanced at Queen-Emma-Bridge, Punda and Otrabanda. (Yes, I couldn’t wait seeing it with my own eyes.)
Having seen that, we cruised over the island with our rental car and took a look at some of the beaches. Of course we decided which would be our favourites. Sometimes there is a reason, why some are more crowded than others.
After that we were happy, having booked our accommodation in Willemstad. Getting food seems more difficult out of the city. The area around Westpunt is beautiful and perfect for those who just want rest. Just not for everyone.
The northeast coast of Curacao was very impressive to us. No turquoise beaches are to be found here but sparse landscape and big waves smashing against the rocks. Also, the variety of cactuses reminds of Mexico (though we haven´t been there yet).
Boca Pistol was the highlight to us. It’s located inside the Shete Boka National Park. Admission fee was 2$ per car (quite fair). After walking around a bit, we drove to Boca Pistol (a bit too far to walk from the park entrance).
The park was not well signposted, so we got lost at first. The roads were dusty and not too good for our small rental car. But on the way the landscape is lovely.
I almost got a heart attack here, because this old tree looked like a huge iguana to me:
Fortunately we didn’t give up too early (like many others): Finally we found what we were looking for:
Conclusion: Renting a car is a must. Without it, it’s hard to get here.
