Legian and Jimbaran – Sunsets, beaches and seafood!

Jimbaran, Bali, Indonesia

These two places were perfect to explore the surroundings, but especially for the beginning and end of our journey! The infrastructure is good and the airport is close! We can really recommend those places, as you can start your journey relaxed after a long flight and finish it off.

Sunsets on the west coast are the best

Bali is famous for its sunsets. And we’re huge fans of sunsets. No matter how our journey proceeded, the sunsets let us make peace with the island over and over again.

Legian, Bali, Indonesia

Legian and Australians

Nothing against Australians. Quite the contrary. Funny and friendly folks. We were really amused watching them watching Rugby! The emotional and aggressive behaviour was similar to Europeans watching soccer. But that’s a kind of sport I don’t understand. These guys are only running and hitting each other – did I get this right?! Well, Jan likes it, though.

Well, at least it doesn’t matter. We understand Australians. If we would live as close to Bali as people from Darwin or Perth, we would definitely come as often to Bali as they do. It’s just a three to four hours flight for them.

Legian, Bali, Indonesia

What’s the difference between Kuta and Legian? Not much, but the Party is in Kuta. Legian is more relaxed, so if you’re searching for the clubs, you have to take a cab and go to Kuta.

If you want to learn surfing, Legian is your place. The waves are high enough, but not too dangerous for beginners.

Despite the 90’s (sometimes) techno music, there was a great atmosphere on Legian beach. It seemed like only cool and relaxed people were there. Probably, this was the case.

From Legian, we made a one day trip to Pura Ulun Danu Bratan and Tanah Lot. Booking trips is more expensive here than it is for example in Ubud. We got a much better price for the boat to Gili Trawangan than in Legian.

Jimbaran – Seafood at sunset

If you don’t like any kind of fish, this is not the place for you. But if you do, you should immediately get your ass over here. Fish and seafood at sunset and the very good prices exulted us to this place. We were in heaven!

We were not the only guests there for sure. Every evening, busses spit out bunches of very happy Asians, who have probably never seen a beach in their life before.

First we were mad, as they were blocking our view. But after a short while, they became our highlight and it was totally entertaining. Cheers to the Asian tourists in Jimbaran!

The beach was ok for swimming, but nothing special (yes, we’re spoilt kids). The tar spots were a bit disgusting. And of course, the waste!

From Jimbaran we made a half day trip to Uluwatu and Padang Padang Beach.

Padang Padang Beach

It would have been a beautiful alternative to Jimbaran. It’s a really nice bay, but extremely overcrowded and you have to pay for the parking lot (but it’s not too much). Dead corals put it over the edge.

The moment you approach the rocks on the right side, it suddenly becomes very calm and beautiful. Just like with Gili Trawangan, we’re not sure how to rate the beaches.

Having said it before: The western part of Bali is perfect for the days of your arrival and departure. Sunsets were amazing. But if you’re really looking for perfect beaches, you won’t find them in Bali, in our opinion.

Don’t know how serious you can take us at that topic, as we’re spoilt kids (thanks to Cuba and Curaçao). But Bali has to offer so much more and something else than beaches:
