We could write a detailed post now about all the interesting sights Bangkok has to offer. And there are really a lot. But you can google them as well or look it up in some travel guide.
Usually travellers don’t stay long in Bangkok as they begin or finish their journey here. Maybe they’re here for a few days, normally not more. Seeing everything is therefore often impossible.
You should consider that it’s very hot here. That’s why you shouldn’t plan too much for one stay and, more important, drink a lot. As it is common among backpackers, I’m not talking about beer. I mean water.
Sightseeing in Bangkok
We make it short. This is what you have to see and to do in Bangkok:
The impressive King’s Palace and Wat Phra Khaeo. It’s gigantic and beautiful. They have a thing for gold here.
The 45 meter long and lying Bhudda statue in Wat Pho.
Wat Arun – the Temple of the Dawn.
Taking the Sky train and shopping all around Siam Square.
Drinking in Khao San Road, but eat somewhere else.
Try the street food. It’s yummy and cheap. We didn’t have any kind of problems afterwards.
Make a boat trip on the Chao Praya River. If you like, buy the wrong ticket, get caught and get crapped on that in Thai. Just like us. No, don’t do it. That would be weird!
Spend one evening/night at a rooftop bar. I mean really, do it! We totally regret we didn’t. During both Bangkok stays we were just too lazy in the evenings. Now we’re jealous of others.
Don’t forget: Bangkok is more about the daily insanity, the experiences you make and the impressions you get. More about that here!
Good to know
Well, maybe you shouldn’t believe everything they tell you. This applies just in general.
Furthermore you shouldn’t make fun about the king or complain about the system. They really don’t like that in Thailand.
Kids, don’t do drugs. Of course, not only in Thailand but especially in Asia, even if it’s just a little bit of weed. You get in prison for a very long time here. The embassy can’t help you in that case. So just don’t do it!
If you have the feeling someone’s trying to rip you off, tell them something about the ‘tourist police’. Regarding our experiences, some become very nervous only by hearing the name. It seems this tourist police is not very friendly.
Bangkok and its Chaos
Bangkok dominates its chaos perfectly and teaches us very stiff Europeans the beautiful other. Chaos can work on its very own and very well. Bangkok is the perfect example!
