What we would do differently after our travels in 2015!

Central Park, New York, USA

While doing research on new destinations for this year, we found other blogs writing about their reviews from the past year. We actually like this kind of stuff.

But, everyone (including us) was only writing about the good stuff and how amazing their travels were. We really believe them, but to be honest there is always something not working so well.

Hence, we decided to think about what we didn’t like or what we would do differently the next time as you never stop learning while travelling. Besides from that it always seems to be a short stay (no matter how long you stay), there is always a little something that didn’t work well.

Piräus, Athens, Greece

Athens in January

Athens in January can be quite cold. Well, not when we were there and we really loved the city. Therefore, the only thing we would differently would be to stay a day longer to enjoy more of the Plaka (Old Town) and eat again in one of the restaurants in Piraeus.

Times Square, New York City, USA

New York in March

It was a really cold March in New York 2015. For this reason, the following wasn’t really an option. But we would have loved to go up on of the rooftopbars. This is something we really missed while there. Furthermore we passed Chelsea Market and didn’t go inside. We truly regret that.

Alfama, Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon in April

Well, this one isn’t Lisbon’s fault and could have happened anywhere else. But next time, we would avoid getting pinched. Read more here!

And we would definitely take the time and go to more of the traditional fish restaurants. Next time!

Colosseo, Rome, Italy

Rome in May

May is the perfect to travel to Rome. You can already sit outside and tourist masses are not yet too annoying. Somehow it felt like we didn’t spend enough time in Trastevere. This is the part of the city, you should go out in every night. There are a lot of bars and restaurants and the beautiful alleys remind us of ‘To Rome with love’.

Positano, Amalfi Coast, Italy

Amalfi Coast in May

This is such a dreamy coast. On the one hand, we wanted to see as much as possible and one week is more than enough time. On the other hand the streets are narrow, winding and busy. Driving along here for a long time is really exhausting. Furthermore parking lots are rare and this really got on our nerves. We would have loved to pay the horrendous parking fees but there weren’t just enough places.

Afterwards, we should have stayed longer at one place and just relax. For example in our favourite Amalfi town Positano. I’m still dreaming of the lemon tartlet and the view over the colourful houses.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Balkans in June

This was the perfect trip – except our accommodation in Dubrovnik. We recommend you to spend some more money in this city. Unfortunately the rating on booking.com saying ‘good’ was not really helpful. Just look after the ‘Very good’ or better ‘Excellent’ ratings. Apart from that, our trip here was perfect.

Palais de l'Isle, Annecy, France

Switzerland/Annecy/ Provence in August

We wouldn’t have done anything different. If you have some money left, spend more time in Switzerland. Personally, I would love to have stayed one more day in Annecy. Only because I loved this place!

Monkey Forest, Ubud, Bali, Indonesia

Bali in September

Nr. 1 hint for you: Try to stay relaxed if someone’s trying to rip you off too obviously. This is something we didn’t always make and it can totally ruin the moment.

Another thing is: Don’t do too much ‘Off the beaten path’. In our experience, this might lead to garbage dumps. Nothing the eye wants to see when in paradise.

Apart from that, we loved everything about culture, food and nature!

Marina Bay Sands, Singapore

Singapore in September

We only had a stopover here, but it was enough time to see the most important. We would have loved to see the Indian quarter. If it’s possible, stay a few days. Singapore is amazing. Maybe we would take a breathing mask with us the next time like many of the citizens do. The smog here was crazy.

Mercat de la Boqueria, Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona in December

The only thing we couldn’t manage to see was the Montserrat Monastery. We really wanted to see it, but what can you do if you only have this one weekend.

What would you have done differently on your past travels?
